about

"Sounds like vintage electronica, looks like vintage electronica..."

For this, the seventh volume in the Bedroom Cassette Masters series, we venture into the 1990's. AKAI samplers are everywhere, the first examples of PC-based sequencing software are becoming cheap enough to invest in and - somewhat incredibly when you think about it now - junk shops began to fill with disgarded and unwanted synthesizers from the seventies and eighties that were beginning to be viewed as out of date. *sighs*

At 42 tracks this is the largest compilation in the series so far but you will be pleased to know it is not filled with 8 minute long EDM rave/techno tracks (though there are some examples for the sake of completeness). Instead what you get here is the full gamut of work from bedroom producers everywhere working with a mixture of old analog and nineties digital equipment. You will find examples from a huge range of genres here: synth-pop, ambient, coldwave, minimal wave, dance, techno-esque and pure experimental noise.

The digital download comes with a 100 page pdf which will fill you in on the artist details and gear used as well as some cultural ephemera from the nineties. There is also a printable cassette j-card for those of you who habitually transfer the BCM albums onto tape!
